—If there are any particular images you need that aren't in the Archives, send an email to
fiery-foods@comcast.net.

—If you know of any photographers whose work would fit into this archive, please tell them about us.

—Let us know if some part of this archive is not working properly.

About the image sizes:

Sunbelt Archives offers our photos at different image sizes. We recommend you select a medium or large image for projects that will be printed. Choose a small image for a web site or other computer-based applications.

Image sizes are presented in two ways: size in inches, pixel dimensions, and DPI (dots per inch). Our small images are all 72 DPI. Medium and large images are all 300 DPI and suitable for print reproduction.

Small images are 72 DPI sized to be 900 pixels on the long dimension; the short dimension averages 630 pixels, but this dimension varies depending on how the image has been cropped. The maximum size of a small image at 300 DPI is approximately 2" x 3". Recommended for: a web site or other computer-based applications.

Medium images are 300 DPI sized to be 1600 pixels on the long dimension; the short dimension averages 1136 pixels, but this dimension varies depending on how the image has been cropped. The maximum size of a medium image at 300 DPI is approximately 4" x 5.3". Recommended for: print reproduction.

Large images are 300 DPI sized to be 2800 pixels on the
long dimension; the short dimension averages 1988 pixels, but this dimension varies depending on how the image has been cropped. The maximum size of a medium image at 300 DPI is approximately 7" x 9.3". Recommended for: print reproduction.

Although you can use our images for nearly any purpose you desire, we do have a few restrictions on usage:

  • You cannot resell the images.

  • Under a standard license, you cannot use the images on a product where the image is a dominant feature, such as posters and postcards.

  • You cannot use the images as part of a logo or trademark.

  • When using images that depict people, you cannot use them in a way that defames the models.

Our Policy on Public Domain

We believe that once an image has entered the public domain it cannot be retrieved and copyrighted by any individual, group, company, museum, or government agency.  We agree with this policy of the Wikimedia Foundation:

To put it plainly, WMF's position has always been that faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain, and that claims to the contrary represent an assault on the very concept of a public domain. If museums and galleries not only claim copyright on reproductions, but also control the access to the ability to reproduce pictures (by prohibiting photos, etc.), important historical works that are legally in the public domain can be made inaccessible to the public except through gatekeepers.
